Aquabyte

About

In 2017, Aquabyte was founded with a bold vision: to harness the power of AI and computer vision to transform aquaculture. What started with early prototypes in a San Francisco bathtub has evolved into a global leader in advanced aquaculture technology, trusted by fish farmers across Norway, Chile, the UK, Iceland, and the Faroe Islands. The founders recognized that while oceans cover 70% of our planet, they produce only 5% of our protein - and saw an opportunity to make aquaculture more sustainable through data-driven innovation.

Today, Aquabyte combines Silicon Valley innovation with deep aquaculture expertise to deliver a comprehensive monitoring platform that empowers fish farmers with real-time insights. Their custom underwater cameras capture over 1.3 million images daily, which AI algorithms analyze to provide accurate data on fish weight, lice levels, welfare indicators, and behavior. This technology has evolved from simple weight estimation to a full suite of products including automatic lice counting, welfare monitoring, behavior tracking, and feeding optimization. With a team of 51-200 employees working across offices in Norway, San Francisco, and Chile, Aquabyte continues to push the boundaries of what's possible in sustainable food production, helping farmers make smarter decisions that improve efficiency, fish health, and environmental outcomes.
