In 2011, our founders Jorge Heraud and Lee Redden were graduate students at Stanford University when they recognized a critical gap in agriculture: farmers needed smarter ways to manage crops and reduce chemical usage. Traditional farming methods wasted resources and harmed the environment, so they founded Blue River Technology with a vision to revolutionize agriculture through intelligent machinery. What began as a bold idea to apply computer vision and machine learning to farming has evolved into a mission-driven company that’s transforming how food is grown worldwide.
Today, Blue River Technology stands at the forefront of agricultural innovation, creating intelligent machinery that solves monumental challenges for farmers. Our flagship See & Spray technology uses computer vision and machine learning to distinguish between crops and weeds, enabling precise herbicide application that reduces chemical use by up to 90%. Since joining John Deere in 2017, we’ve scaled our impact while preserving our startup mentality and collaborative culture. Our team of innovators combines expertise in computer vision, deep learning, robotics, and data science to build solutions that optimize chemical usage, reimagine routine processes, and improve farming yields year after year. We believe that focusing on the small stuff - pixel-by-pixel and plant-by-plant - leads to big gains for farmers and the planet.
