Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is a U.S. Department of Energy national laboratory based in Aiken, South Carolina. The lab's robotics efforts crosscut several of its technical domains, including decontamination and decommissioning, environmental characterization, and waste form development. Practically, this translates to work on remote manipulation platforms, sensor integration for radiological and chemical surveying, and autonomy stacks that must function reliably with degraded sensing and constrained mobility. Engineers joining SRNL would be working on systems where the hardware-software boundary is defined by regulatory and safety requirements as much as by technical architecture.
