Perception System Eval Engineer, Perception, Autonomy

Role Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer with experience in Perception, Robotics, or Tracking to help build and scale our evaluation tools for perception systems. This role is critical to ensuring the performance, safety, and reliability of the autonomy stack as we deploy across a commercial fleet of hundreds of thousands of vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement high-performance evaluation frameworks for perception and tracking modules, both onboard and offboard.

• Build scalable tools and pipelines to measure accuracy, robustness, and reliability across large-scale datasets and real-world fleet data.

• Collaborate with Perception and Autonomy teams to define evaluation metrics and ensure continuous improvement in system performance.

• Optimize codebases and ensure tools integrate seamlessly with production workflows.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of direct industry experience as a software engineer in robotics, AV (Autonomous Vehicle), or other real-time, safety-critical experience.

• Strong proficiency in Python and modern C++ (C++14/17 or later), as well as large-scale software engineering best practices.

• Experience in Perception, Tracking, or Robotics domains (evaluation, sensor fusion, or ML systems preferred).

• Demonstrated ability to build scalable tools and infrastructure supporting R&D and fleet deployment.

• Bachelor’s/Master’s/PhD in Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field.

Pay Disclosure

Salary Range for California Based Applicants: $179,000.00 - $223,800.00 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).    Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26.
