UnitX

UnitX builds AI-powered machine vision inspection systems for manufacturing quality control, with over 1,000 systems deployed across 190+ manufacturers' production lines in automotive, battery, electronics, and semiconductor plants.

UnitX builds AI-powered machine vision inspection systems for manufacturing quality control. Founded in 2018 and headquartered in San Jose, California, the company develops automated visual inspection systems that detect and classify complex defects across parts, materials, and part orientations, replacing repetitive manual inspection tasks on factory lines. The technical stack spans deep learning, computer vision, robotics, and imaging systems, with defect detection and classification models applied to production-grade inspection hardware deployed at the point of manufacture. Deployment scale is the main grounding signal for engineering work: over 1,000 mission-critical systems are in operation across production lines at more than 190 manufacturers, accumulating over 5.7 million hours of continuous operation. The systems inspect roughly $15 billion of product value per year. Customer concentration includes the top 10 automotive Tier 1 suppliers, the top 2 EV battery suppliers, and the top 10 lithium battery suppliers, alongside electronics, PCBA, semiconductor, and connector manufacturers. The engineering problems are those of fielded machine vision: handling variation in part geometry, material, and position under production conditions, and holding accuracy and uptime on lines where inspection is a gating step. Units operate worldwide in factory environments rather than laboratory settings. UnitX is Series B funded.
