Quest Diagnostics

Quest Diagnostics provides clinical laboratory testing and diagnostic information services across North America, supported by a large specimen collection and courier transport network serving U.S. physicians and hospitals.

Quest Diagnostics operates clinical laboratory and diagnostic information services across the United States and North America, employing nearly 57,000 people, including over 700 M.D.s and Ph.D.s. The company's testing and insights reach approximately half of all U.S. physicians and hospitals, and one in three American adults each year. Its technical work spans diagnostic laboratory testing, clinical laboratory services, diagnostic information services, and specimen logistics and transport.

The physical footprint behind that workload is substantial and operationally constrained. Specimens are collected at roughly 2,000 patient service centers and over 7,700 patient access points in North America, then moved through a transport network of more than 4,000 courier vehicles and nearly 20 aircraft making over 73,000 stops daily. The engineering surface here is one of high-throughput handling, chain-of-custody integrity, routing and scheduling under time windows, and reliability across a distributed fleet - problems where physical automation, sensing, and logistics software meet hard real-world edge cases.

On the service side, Quest Diagnostics delivers laboratory testing and diagnostic insights intended to help identify and treat disease, support healthy behaviors, and improve healthcare management, described as smarter, simpler testing. The stated mission is to create a healthier world, one life at a time.
