Bedrock Ocean Exploration is a vertically integrated ocean exploration company building custom autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and a cloud-native data platform to map and classify the Earth's entire ocean floor. The company designs its own hardware and software stack, operating as a Public Benefit Corporation with a stated mission to produce a free, publicly available seabed map in support of the global Seabed 2030 initiative.

The AUV fleet carries multibeam echosounders, side-scan sonar, magnetometers, and sub-bottom profilers. Each vehicle runs on lithium-ion batteries for up to 12 hours and achieves 1–2 meter positional accuracy during survey missions. Edge computing handles onboard sensor fusion and data preprocessing; post-mission, data flows into the cloud-native platform for scalable processing and seabed intelligence delivery. The company claims its mapping detail is 50 times greater than the current best public map.

Applications span energy development, critical infrastructure monitoring, security and defense operations, and scientific research. Robotics engineers working here would operate at the boundary between embedded autonomy and cloud-scale data systems - constrained by battery endurance, underwater communication limitations, and the requirement for reliable long-duration missions in unstructured marine environments.
