the role
We are looking for a Field Robotics Software & Communications Engineer (m/f/d) to ensure our robotic platforms operate reliably in real-world environments.
You will be the technical point of contact during field deployments, customer demonstrations, military exercises, and integration campaigns. Your focus: software interfaces, controller configuration, radio/LTE/satellite communications, and troubleshooting directly in the field.
You bridge the gap between engineering and operations — ensuring that our systems communicate, perform, and integrate flawlessly in demanding environments.
YOUR TASKS
- Deploy, configure, and test ARX robotic platforms at customer sites, training grounds, and field exercises
- Set up, validate, and troubleshoot communication systems including:
- Tactical radios & encrypted communication devices
- LTE/5G modems and network routing
- Satellite (Starlink) terminals and satcom setups - Configure and maintain controller software, mission interfaces, and communication protocols for stable field operation
- Integrate sensors, payloads, and external systems using APIs, SDKs, and data interfaces
- Diagnose software, networking, and communication issues directly in the field — under time pressure and operational constraints
- Support customers and users on-site: training, operational assistance, scenario support
- Collect field feedback, identify technical improvements, and work with the engineering team to implement fixes
- Prepare documentation, network diagrams, field test reports, and integration notes
- Participate in testing campaigns, experiments, and product validation in realistic environments
your profile
- Degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or related — or equivalent hands-on technical experience
- Strong software and communication systems knowledge, ideally in robotics or unmanned systems
- Solid experience with:
- Embedded Linux, microcontrollers, C++/Python scripting
- Networking fundamentals (TCP/UDP, routing, VPN, antenna setups, QoS)
- Practical experience working with radios, LTE/5G devices, satellite communication or secure tactical communication equipment
- Ability to troubleshoot complex system behavior in the field across software, communications, and hardware boundaries
- Comfortable working outdoors, at training ranges, industrial facilities, military exercises, and customer sites
- Strong communication skills for training, on-site support, and customer interaction
- Willingness to travel frequently (Germany + EU)
- Fluent in English; German is a plus
- Hands-on, proactive mindset — someone who enjoys being “out there” solving real operational problems
- Experience with defense or dual-use communication systems
- Background in mesh networking and MANET radios
- Cybersecurity knowledge related to communication and
- unmanned systems
- Experience deploying software updates or patches in mobile/field environments
- Understanding of ruggedized hardware and outdoor operational constraints
benefits and perks
- Competitive salary and benefits package
- A shaping role in an emerging dual use company
- Opportunity to work with a highly innovative, international, and dynamic team
- Room for professional growth and development
- Participation in the company's success, with access to regular events, knowledge exchange and meetups
